Youtube: American Hipster Presents

One of my latest discoveries - American Hipster Presents. It is a weekly short documentary series profiling trendsetters in 10 cities across the country. Through earnest and stylized video portraits, it explores the passions of American tastemakers in music, art, food, style, and social life.

Here are some of my favorites:

20's

When it's just the begining of november, supermarkets in Latvia ar already filled with christmas decorations. I'm sure, that it won't be long till the first annoying christmas songs will be played in radio again, again and again. One of the events I'm already quite excited about is my university's christmas ball. It has a 20s theme, which I couldn't call very original idea, but still I have never gone to any this decade themed event. Here are some pics for my inspiration...

This is on of my the most favorite fashion shows ever. What I love about it the most is not just John Galliano`s stunning pieces of art, makeup and hair, but the atmosphere of the show. I get the front row feeling and excitement when in reality I'm sitting in my bed with laptop, watching youtube.

Pictures are from tumblr.

Wassup'

Hello again! Well, after ... almost a year, I decided, that it would be nice to try posting something new here. A lot has changed in this time - unfortunatly, my camera broke, in summer I worked a lot as a gardener, me and my mom had a week long trip to Germany, Achim and this autumn I became a student in Riga Tehnical University, environmental sciences and I'm very excited about it. Now I moved back to Riga and it means, that I'm finally back to normal internet access!! :) I won't make any promise to post every day, because I'm already a bit behind with my studies, but I will make much bigger effort to keep this blog alive and, hopefully, try to inspire and entertain you my dear readers!

Oh well..

Ah.. I`ve been sick for almost 5 days. It annoys me a lot, because of all tiredness, its almost impossible to stay away from my bed long enough and do the things, that I want to do. Well, I started to clean old trashfiles form my laptop and found old pictures from last years summer trip with Maddie. It all started when my brother found an amazing place for photoshoot. It was an old stock at stone-quarry and it looked so dramatic, that we couldn`t miss a chance to go there. Actually it was illegal for us being there, because this stone-quarry was a private property and there were truck drivers working all day long, but we acted, that we`re just lost. :D

Song of today & huge thanks!

Best cover of this song, that I`ve ever heard. Recently I heard it on radio, but very soon forgot about it. This morning when I woke up, somehow this cover just played in my head itself. Today outside is very gloomy weather so this peaceful song is perfect for my mood. Hope you like it too. :)

Recently watched: documentaries or stories about famous fashion designers.

Last year in Riga was happening annual movie festival called "Baltic pearl". This festival didn`t caught my attention so much as another movie festival called "Arsenāls", which weardly happened almost in same time. Last year I had a chanse to try out my photographer skills in "Arsenāls" as a volunteer photographer. It was an amazing experience and I was abel to visit openings and watch movies for free, but my sceagule was filled whith school and events so I had no time to watch movies which were showed at "Baltic pearl". Last week I found "Baltic pearl" brochure and I was a bit shocked. I actually didn`t had any idea that there were so many movies about these world-known fashion designers!

1. Lagerfeld Confidential (2007)

Personally I`m not a very huge die-hard Karl Lagerfeld or Chanel fan, but I admire his work and style concept of this fashion house. Actually I realy enjoyed this movie, because It had a humor, I got to know Karl better as a human, not this all marketing illusion and I got a chance to see how this branding works. An actual work not just result at the end.

 2. Coco avant Chanel (2009)

OK, this wasn`t recently watched movie, because I`ve already seen it two years ago. :) It wasn`t a documentary, as I hoped, but still it was realy interesting to see the begining of Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel life before she choosed designer career. I`m not sure how much I can believe the script, because I haven`t red her biography. Still I loved that in story there were, at some parts tragic, sense of romance. And loved Audrey Tautou, because she is one of my favorite actresses.

3. Yves Saint Laurent: L'amour fou. (2010)

Reviews prepared me to take a tissue, because they said that this is gonna be really sad movie. And it kinda was but I didn`t bursted in tears. I felt it kind a depressing, but still it showed the point that fashion world isn`t always so shiny and sparkling dream land. It can suck out your energy and enjoyment of life, so you have to learn how to survive if you want to live in it. For me, movie was a bit too boring and slow, but still I recomend to see it.

4.  Valentino: The Last Emperor (2008)

This movie also wasn`t what I expected. It was a lot more better!
It was realy interesting documentary in which I felt more involved as a viewer than in K.Lagerfelds movie. I loved Valentino Garavani humor, adorable quarrels with Giancarlo Giammetti about who is fatter and of course sense of Valentinos artist ego. And again I loved that I saw the process of all the work from dress sketch to big runway. I`ve already watched it again 2 times, but I`m sure, after a while I will want to see it again. :)

Photographer of month: Lara Jade.

About 7 year's ago unintentionally I found Lara's profile in deviantart and instantly I fell in love with her work. Since then I was really inspired to push my own boundaries as a photographer, even without good equipment.
Here are some of my favorite Laras shoots..
